December 17, 2015
  • Optum and ProHealth Physicians will collaborate to improve patient care quality, outcomes and experiences
  • Optum will provide clinical, administrative and technology support to meet the changing needs of ProHealth Physicians and its patients

Health services leader Optum announced that ProHealth Physicians (ProHealth), one of Connecticut’s largest independent physician groups and its integrated management company, has joined the OptumCare organization to advance care for its more than 360,000 active patients.

ProHealth’s approximately 370 physicians and advanced practitioners provide primary care, specialty care and ancillary services.

Optum and ProHealth share a goal of improving the quality and efficiency of health care in local communities, and of managing the costs of care, by improving communication and collaboration among patients, physicians, hospitals and health plans. Optum will help ProHealth build upon its success with clinical and administrative support, including access to advanced data, analytic and connectivity solutions that help care providers better collaborate, coordinate care, and achieve the best possible outcomes. Optum also brings population health management expertise to support better outcomes and healthy lifestyles, and front-office administrative services that help physicians efficiently operate their practices and maintain their focus on patient care.

“As a progressive leader in helping patients access high-quality, compassionate care, ProHealth is a strong fit with OptumCare and our focus on advancing patient-centered care nationwide, starting at the local level, ” said Larry Renfro, CEO of Optum. “We look forward to working with ProHealth to enhance its already outstanding support of physicians, other care providers and patients in Connecticut.”

“Partnering with Optum will further enhance the high-quality care that our physicians and advanced practitioners provide to their patients today,” said Jack Reed, CEO of ProHealth Physicians. “Both of our organizations are committed to helping providers continually deliver the best possible care and services and to building healthier communities.”

In addition to primary care, ProHealth’s broad range of patient services include specialty and diagnostic/therapeutic services such as ENT, pediatric and adult gastroenterology, plastic surgery, neurology, imaging, physical therapy, sleep medicine services, ADHD diagnosis and treatment, audiology, and regional ExpressCare walk-in centers.

OptumCare helps physicians and other care providers deliver personalized care to keep patients healthier longer. In local markets where it operates, OptumCare collaborates with multiple health plans, care providers and employers to meet the needs of the broader community. OptumCare serves more than 7 million patients nationwide through nearly 17,000 physician partners and 5,700 advanced practice clinicians.
