  • Ranking recognizes UnitedHealth Group’s commitment to helping build healthier communities

UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) ranked as one of America’s most community-minded companies in The Civic 50, an annual initiative from Points of Light recognizing companies that improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business. The company has been included in the rankings every year since The Civic 50 initiative began in 2012.

The survey was conducted by Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service.

“UnitedHealth Group’s mission to help people live healthier lives and help make the health care system work better for everyone is brought to life every day through the dedication of our people. Through the 1.25 million hours our employees volunteered in 2016, they helped build healthier communities everywhere where they live and work,” said Stephen J. Hemsley, CEO of UnitedHealth Group.

Through community-centered programs, partnerships and initiatives, UnitedHealth Group serves people in need, helps employees give back and, through United Health Foundation, provides actionable data to drive important discussions with its America’s Health Rankings, which tracks short- and long-term successes and identifies current and emerging challenges to the nation’s health.

UnitedHealth Group efforts include:

“In the fifth year of honoring the most community-minded companies in the nation, The Civic 50 highlights the commitment to community and civic engagement of America’s leading brands,” said Jennifer Lawson, president of networks at Points of Light. “By elevating critical stakeholder voices from employees, customers and communities into their mission statements, The Civic 50 companies are putting themselves at the center of change to create more enduring and sustainable business models.”

The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities, and was developed in partnership with a high-profile working group of researchers and industry thought leaders. As a result of this collaborative process, the initiative reflects leading insight and thinking about how corporations can and should connect with communities in a 21st century economy. The findings are determined by an annual survey and compiled for a report to create a roadmap for companies seeking to best use their time, talent and resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business.
