About Erin McSweeney

Erin McSweeney was named executive vice president and chief people officer for UnitedHealth Group in March 2022. In this role, McSweeney is responsible for developing and implementing UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise people and culture strategy and strengthening leadership alignment. She joined UnitedHealth Group in 2017 and served as executive vice president and chief human resources officer of Optum for four years. In 2021, she became chief of staff to UnitedHealth Group’s Office of the Chief Executive.

Serving more than three decades as a human resources professional, McSweeney is an experienced strategic change agent with a track record of elevating organizational performance and strengthening cultural values. Before joining UnitedHealth Group, McSweeney was executive vice president and chief human resources officer for EMC Corporation (now Dell Technologies). During her 11 years with EMC, she held various senior-level human resources roles within the organization, including for VCE (a joint venture of EMC), Cisco and VMWare (now a business unit within EMC). Throughout her career, she held several leadership roles in various industries, startups and turnarounds.
