Easy and affordable health care for mothers and their families

A mother’s journey with health benefits

When Mackenzy, a UnitedHealthcare member, was expecting her first child, she had questions and concerns about pregnancy. Through her benefits, she learned about Maven, an online clinic offering personalized 24/7 virtual support and guidance for pregnancy, postpartum and the newborn journey.

Knowing Maven’s services were available to her through her health plan, Mackenzy took advantage to easily book virtual appointments with her OB, access on-demand classes and find physical therapy providers.

“You can't plan what's going to happen, but having some extra support to be as prepared as you possibly can be took a load off my shoulders.”

Why it matters

36% increase in maternal mortality

Maternal mortality and infant mortality are increasing in the United States, highlighting a large gap in care that many mothers face. Beyond maternal health care, women face a variety of other health problems, including increased physical distress, depression and decreased vaccination rates.¹

In an already complicated health system, maternal health can be overlooked and underserved. That’s why providing safe and accessible care to women and children is more important than ever.

To help combat the issues that women and their families are experiencing, UnitedHealthcare is working to make quality health care easier to get.

Investing in communities

One way we’re helping the health care system better serve mothers and their families is by investing in local communities and programs. In 2025, the United Health Foundation, the philanthropic foundation of UnitedHealth Group, announced $7 million in grants to increase access to maternal and infant health care in Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico and Wisconsin.

UnitedHealthcare also supports a mobile health center for moms and babies in Washington, D.C., and the greater metro area. The Mom & Baby Mobile Health Center by March of Dimes provides wellness exams, point-of-care ultrasounds, infant care and more to local mothers and families.

The bottom line

Every step of someone’s health journey matters. Building a better health system and improving outcomes means delivering quality care to real people, all across the country.
