UnitedHealth Group has leveraged its clinical knowledge, expertise and resources to help develop and advance innovations to fight COVID-19. Our teams have developed new types of testing modules and worked with partners to support the advancement of potential treatments and building of life-saving equipment.

Monoclonal Antibody Treatment
We helped improve access to monoclonal antibody treatment and further measure its effectiveness for patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms.
Vaccine Research
We collaborated with Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies to support their Phase 3 COVID-19 vaccine candidate trial.
Convalescent Plasma Treatments
We donated $5 million to accelerate and expand Mayo Clinic’s groundbreaking investigational study of convalescent plasma treatments for COVID-19 patients nationwide.
Lifesaving Equipment

New Light Ventilators

We partnered with the University of Minnesota, Boston Scientific and Medtronic to develop and produce 3,000 light ventilators to address the supply shortfall.

Testing Materials and Protocols

Broad, rapid and accurate testing is essential to addressing the COVID-19 crisis. UnitedHealth Group has helped develop simple, scalable solutions to improve testing efficiency and flexibility, and protect health care workers.

Polyester and Saline Testing Materials

We led a study resulting in FDA approval for the use of alternative swab materials and commonly available saline for COVID-19 testing, providing more options for sample collection.

Self-Administered Swab Testing

We developed and tested a new FDA approved self-administered COVID-19 swab protocol that has led to meaningfully improved testing efficiency, safety and protection of health care workers, and reduced consumption of personal protection equipment.
