Jennifer Smoter

Jennifer Smoter was named senior vice president and chief communications officer of UnitedHealth Group in March 2021. She is responsible for enhancing the company’s reputation and overseeing all aspects of communications for the enterprise, ensuring the function contributes to business goals and helps drive culture transformation. 

Previously, Smoter was senior vice president of External Affairs and Communications at Intellia Therapeutics, Inc., a biotech startup company. Prior to that, she was head of Communications and Brand at AbbVie, Inc., and held various global communications leadership positions at Abbott Laboratories, Inc. She holds the honor of taking two companies public on both the NYSE and NASDAQ.

Smoter is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society and Comms 50. In 2013, she was inducted into The Seminar, the premier organization of the highest-ranking communications and public affairs executives and in 2024, she was inducted in PR Week’s Hall of Fame. She serves on the board of several organizations dedicated to youth development.
