On May 4, the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine and Chairman Sponsor UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans hosted the 2017 Heroes of Military Medicine Awards dinner in Washington, D.C.  The annual program recognizes outstanding contributions by medical professionals who have distinguished themselves through excellence in advancing military medicine and enhancing the lives and health of our nation's wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and civilians.

Three active duty Heroes of Military Medicine representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force respectively, were selected as the 2017 award recipients from a group of nominees submitted by the Office of the Surgeon General for each service.

"At UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans we have the opportunity to work closely with the medical professionals at military treatment facilities and it has taught us so much about providing the best health care for military families," said Dr. John Mateczun, president, UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans, and chairman of this year's awards dinner. "We are amazed every day by the men and women, particularly tonight's honorees, who dedicate their lives -- often in harm's way, and often away from their families -- to taking care of our nation's wounded."
