Yum! Brands is the inaugural recipient of the UnitedHealthcare “Shining Light: Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility” Award for excellence in social responsibility.
Yum! Brands’ “World Hunger Relief” initiative was recognized for successfully mobilizing millions of employees, franchisees and suppliers to address the global hunger crisis, through awareness, engagement, volunteerism and philanthropic fundraising.
The award was presented on May 10th, 2011, at UnitedHealthcare’s 2011 Annual Customer Forum held in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Yum! Brands’ World Hunger Relief is the world’s largest private sector hunger relief effort, spanning 110 countries and 38,000 KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants and raising awareness, volunteerism and funds for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief agencies.
Since World Hunger Relief launched in 2007, more than 1 million of the company’s employees, franchisees and their families have volunteered more than 21 million hours to aid hunger relief efforts in communities worldwide. The effort has raised nearly $85 million for WFP and other hunger relief organizations and is helping to provide more than 350 million meals and save the lives of millions of people in remote corners of the world.

During the award presentation, UnitedHealthcare gave Yum! Brands a Shining Light Award and a $25,000 check to the company’s charity of choice, the United Nations World Food Programme.
Four finalists were also recognized for their excellent social responsibility programs.

UnitedHealthcare’s “Shining Light: Leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility” Award honors one UnitedHealthcare customer for its excellence in social responsibility. Submissions are evaluated on three criteria: creation of shared value – providing mutual benefit to the company and to society; innovation and/or leadership in addressing the challenge; and demonstration of impact and measurable results. The Award recipient receives a Shining Light Award and $25,000 to be donated to the charity of its choice.
