Erin McSweeney was named executive vice president and chief people officer, UnitedHealth Group, in March 2022. In this role, McSweeney is responsible for developing and implementing UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise people and culture strategy and strengthening leadership alignment.
Serving more than three decades as a human resources professional, McSweeney is an experienced strategic change agent with a track record of elevating organizational performance and strengthening cultural values. She joined UnitedHealth Group in 2017 and served as executive vice president and chief human resources officer of Optum for four years. In 2021, she became chief of staff to UnitedHealth Group’s Office of the Chief Executive.
Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, McSweeney was EVP and CHRO for EMC Corporation (now Dell Technologies). During her 11 years with EMC, she also held various senior-level HR roles in many areas of the organization, including CHRO at VCE – a joint venture of EMC, Cisco and VMWare, and now a full business unit within EMC. Throughout her career, she held several other CHRO roles in various industries and for startups and turnarounds.
