Dan Schumacher

Dan Schumacher was named chief strategy and growth officer of UnitedHealth Group in April 2021. He is responsible for driving the company's long-term strategy including enterprise growth, marketing, and consumer organizations as well as strategic client relationships, enterprise partnerships, and the financial services business. Dan serves as the executive sponsor of UnitedHealth Group’s disability inclusion employee resource group and is a member of the UnitedHealth Group Foundation Advisory Board.  

Dan has 25 years of experience in the health care industry, spanning both the payer and provider segments. He joined UnitedHealth Group in 1999 and has held various senior leadership roles across the enterprise, including president and chief operating officer of Optum, president and chief operating officer of UnitedHealthcare, chief financial officer of UnitedHealthcare, chief executive officer of Optum Insight, and chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual. 

Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Dan started his career in public accounting at Arthur Andersen, LLP. He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from St. John’s University.
