To provide military and veterans' families a comfortable home away from home while their loved ones are receiving treatment, United Health Foundation teamed up with Fisher House Foundation to build the first home for military families at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California. At Camp Pendleton Fisher House, families who have a loved one receiving medical treatment at the nearby Naval Hospital, which serves more than 70,000 active-duty and veteran members of the military and their families every year, are provided a comfortable, no-cost place to stay.

United Health Foundation provided a $2.65 million grant to fully fund the construction of Camp Pendleton Fisher House. The eight-suite, 8,000-plus square-foot home is expected to serve more than 280 families annually, saving visiting families more than $360,000 a year in lodging expenses. In addition to the $2.65 million grant, through its Caregiver Support Program, United Health Foundation is making child care available to military families staying at Camp Pendleton Fisher House with a special grant to the Zach and Elizabeth Fisher Child Development Center, located on Camp Pendleton.

"We are grateful for the work of Fisher House and United Health Foundation, and their commitment to our military members and their families," said Brig. Gen. Edward D. Banta, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West-Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. "This home is a symbol of hope and will be an important resource for military families while their loved ones receive medical care."
