UnitedHealth Group Wins LGBTQ Workplace Award

Published February 04, 2020

UnitedHealth Group has earned a perfect 100% rating for the second year in a row as one of the best places to work for LGBTQ equality in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). UnitedHealth Group earned its top rating for taking concrete steps to ensure greater equity for LGBTQ workers and their families in the form of comprehensive policies, benefits and practices, according to the 2020 CEI.

Now in its 18th year, the CEI rates companies based on five categories:

  • Non-discrimination policies.
  • Employment benefits.
  • Demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBTQ diversity and inclusion.
  • Public commitment to LGBTQ equality.
  • Responsible citizenship.

The 2020 CEI rating underscores UnitedHealth Group’s commitment to inclusion and diversity, noted Patricia Lewis, chief human resources officer for UnitedHealth Group. “The unique life experiences of our 325,000 employees – and their differences – are one of the greatest assets we bring to the millions of people we serve every day.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. The HRC Foundation envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.

The CEI annually surveys hundreds of major global employers, including Fortune magazine’s 500 largest publicly traded businesses and hundreds of publicly and privately held mid- to large-sized businesses.

“These companies know that protecting their LGBTQ employees and customers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do – it is also the best business decision,” said HRC President Alphonso David.
