  • UnitedHealth Group’s Wisconsin-based workforce to surpass 7,300

UnitedHealthcare, the nation’s leading health benefits company and part of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), today announced it is creating 169 new jobs at the company’s Green Bay facility, expanding its already significant presence in Wisconsin.

The new jobs include 135 customer care professionals who assist and educate individual consumers in plan selection and enrollment, ways to manage their health and well-being, and maximize health plan benefits and personal health care dollars. Other positions include customer service representatives for members with Medicare benefits. The hiring marks a 32 percent expansion of the Green Bay customer services operation, which handled 3.2 million inquiries from members across the United States last year.

Stephen J. Hemsley, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, made the announcement today at the company’s facility at 3100 AMS Blvd. in Green Bay, joined by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble.

“Wisconsin is ‘open for business,’ and we have chosen to expand our workforce here because of the state’s determination to bring dependable, rewarding employment to its communities and for its commitment to improving access to higher-quality health care for consumers,” Hemsley said.

“Northeastern Wisconsin is a great place for business with a well-educated workforce to support growth,” said Gov. Walker. “These new UnitedHealthcare jobs signal how important the health care sector is in creating new jobs and providing opportunities for the workforce across Wisconsin. I look forward to their future success.”

"I am proud that UnitedHealthcare chose Green Bay for this expansion," said Rep. Ribble. "I wholeheartedly support any effort to create good-paying jobs in northeast Wisconsin, and it’s encouraging that UnitedHealthcare has the confidence that Wisconsin's high-quality workforce will get the job done."

Currently, UnitedHealth Group employs more than 7,100 Wisconsinites and serves more than 1.5 million people in the state. Nearly 2,000 of these employees are based in Green Bay, the largest of UnitedHealth Group’s 12 locations in Wisconsin.

“As we’ve known for years, northeastern Wisconsin is a great place for us to recruit talented, committed people who help consumers navigate very important and personal decisions related to their health care,” said Wendy Arnone, president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin. “We appreciate the efforts and support of Gov. Walker and the City of Green Bay as we continue to expand our presence in the region.”

UnitedHealthcare’s consumer and customer services center in the Green Bay facility is one of the company’s largest such operations in the country, and contributed greatly to earning J.D. Power and Associates’ top ranking in employer satisfaction among self-insured commercial health plans.

UnitedHealthcare has already begun recruiting in the area for the open positions, as well as operational and support staff. People interested in applying are encouraged to attend a job fair at UnitedHealthcare at 3100 AMS Blvd. on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., or apply online at careers.unitedhealthgroup.com.
