UnitedHealthcare Donates $10,000 to Greater Chicago Food Depository in Fight Against HungerCHICAGO —
UnitedHealthcare has donated $10,000 to the Greater Chicago Food Depository to aid in the fight against hunger. The donation will fund programs that benefit Chicago-area older adults.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository distributes nonperishable food and produce to 59 older-adult programs, primarily delivering food to older adults living in residential buildings. Food is free to all residents. The Food Depository also deploys food bank staff to help eligible older adults apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
“Too many older adults are forced to make difficult choices between paying for food and paying for other necessities, such as medicine and rent,” said Kate Maehr, executive director and CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “This support from UnitedHealthcare will help us provide older adults with nutritious food, education for healthy living and access to federal programs.”
“UnitedHealthcare is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to make a difference in the lives of older adults and to help ensure they have access to fresh, nutritious food,” said Tom Paul, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement.
