OptumHealth's St. Louis and Atlanta Behavioral Health Care Advocate Centers Receive NCQA Accreditation Renewal

  • Designation Highlights OptumHealth’s Ongoing Success Providing Access to High-Quality Care
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. —

OptumHealth’s Care Advocate Centers in St. Louis and Atlanta have received renewed Full Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organization (MBHO) Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

NCQA Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators and consumers frequently use to assess the quality of MBHOs. OptumHealth’s Care Advocate Centers received the highest rating awarded by NCQA.

NCQA reviews include rigorous on and off-site evaluations conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A national oversight committee of physicians and behavioral health providers analyzes the team’s findings and assigns an accreditation level based on the MBHO’s performance compared to NCQA standards.

Care Advocate Centers are call centers staffed by behavioral health care professionals who help members access benefits and services. The centers were evaluated for quality in seven categories, including: Quality Management and Improvement, Utilization Management, Credentialing and Recredentialing, Members’ Rights and Responsibilities, and Preventive Behavioral Health Care Services. The evaluation indicated that the St. Louis and Atlanta Care Advocate Centers provided superior service in all categories.

“OptumHealth’s MBHO Accreditation for its St. Louis and Atlanta Care Advocate Centers demonstrates that OptumHealth is an organization working hard to coordinate care and provide access and good customer support,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA president. “It’s a sign that OptumHealth is focused on improving the behavioral health of its members.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the behavioral health needs of people who access our Care Advocate Centers,” said Andy Sekel, Ph.D., OptumHealth Behavioral Solutions CEO. “The independent accreditation from NCQA tells us we are doing a good job helping people access the care they need to get and stay healthy.”

The United Behavioral Health St. Louis Care Advocate Center serves commercial and Medicare health plan participants. The Atlanta Care Advocate Center covers the same groups as well as Medicaid health plan members. This is the second accreditation renewal for each center. United Behavioral Health is a subsidiary of OptumHealth.

OptumHealth holds three-year, Full NCQA MBHO Accreditation in Care Advocate Centers throughout the United States including centers in Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Houston, San Francisco and Portland, Ore.
