UnitedHealthcare has named Manuel A. Selva Jr., M.D., medical director for Latino Health Solutions.
Latino Health Solutions, a division of UnitedHealthcare, provides bilingual (English/Spanish), culturally relevant health and wellness information, services and Web-based resources to meet the health care needs of Hispanic families, their employers, and the brokers and consultants who support them.
In his new role, Dr. Selva, a bilingual Hispanic-American physician who lives in South Florida, will provide leadership and special expertise to UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual’s Hispanic health plans to facilitate participants’ access to personally appropriate medical services, and to advance the company’s bilingual and bicultural programs that help people manage their health and improve their quality of life.

Among his other responsibilities, since 2002, Dr. Selva has provided his special expertise as medical adviser for United Health Foundation, where he is responsible for supporting the communication of population-based health information to the Hispanic community. He is also a senior medical director of UnitedHealthcare commercial health plans in Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Latino Health Solutions helps address Hispanics’ common health concerns, including diabetes and heart disease, and information on healthy lifestyle changes aimed at helping them improve their health and that of their families. Latino Health Solutions also works with employers to support their Hispanic employees with tools such as printed materials, computer-based learning modules and bilingual customer service aimed at helping plan participants understand how to access care and utilize their health insurance appropriately.
