We recognize the following minority/women and veteran business classifications as described by the NMSDC, WBENC and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Minority Business Enterprise

UnitedHealth Group subscribes to the National Minority Supplier Development Council’s (NMSDC) definition of a minority-owned business. Per the NMSDC, a minority-owned business is a company that is at least 51% owned, managed and controlled by one or more minority persons. For purposes of this definition, a minority person is a Black American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian Pacific American or Asian Indian American. The term “Hispanic American” includes U.S. citizens whose origin is from any Latin American country in South America, Central America or the Caribbean. The term “Native American” includes American Indians, American Eskimos, American Aleuts and Native Hawaiians. The term “Asian Pacific American” includes U.S. citizens whose origins are from Japan, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Samoa, Guam and the U.S. trust territories of the Pacific, Northern Marianas, Laos, Cambodia and Taiwan. The term "Asian Indian American” includes U.S. citizens whose origins are in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Women-Owned Business Enterprise

UnitedHealth Group subscribes to the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council’s (WBENC) definition of a women-owned business. Per the WBENC, a women-owned business is an independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more women who are U.S. citizens or legal resident aliens, and whose management and daily operations is controlled by one or more of the women owners.

Veteran-Owned Business Enterprise/Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Enterprise

A veteran-owned business enterprise or service disabled veteran-owned enterprise is a for-profit enterprise presently located in the United States or its trust territories, and at least 51% owned by an individual(s) who has performed active service in one of the U.S. armed services and was honorably discharged. The term "service-disabled" means that such disability was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty in the active military, naval or air service.
