February 04, 2019
  • Medicaid beneficiaries statewide will have access to UnitedHealthcare medical and prescription drug plans, and preventive-health and wellness programs

The State of North Carolina, which is partnering with local health plans to improve people's health and well-being and reduce health care costs, selected UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of North Carolina as one of four managed care organizations to administer its statewide Medicaid program, effective Nov. 1, 2019.

UnitedHealthcare has a long history in North Carolina, offering employer-sponsored, individual and Medicare plans for more than 20 years. The company will now offer health benefit plans for adults and children who qualify for Prepaid Health Plan Services, the state's new Medicaid program, which includes access to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan's care provider network, wellness programs and comprehensive health coverage. This includes preventive care, primary care, hospitalization, prescriptions and other health and wellness services, often at low or no cost.

UnitedHealthcare employs nearly 5,000 people in North Carolina and works with a number of local organizations and nonprofits to improve access to vital health care and community resources that help people live healthier lives.

"We are honored to work with the State of North Carolina to ensure Medicaid beneficiaries have access to personalized, cost-effective health care," said Anita Bachmann, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of North Carolina. "We are committed to improve the overall health of Medicaid plan participants throughout North Carolina."

UnitedHealthcare will work closely with the state to improve the overall health and well-being of North Carolinians through whole-person, coordinated care, which addresses both medical needs and social supports and services such as access to food, transportation, employment and housing.

UnitedHealthcare serves nearly 1.4 million people in North Carolina through employer-sponsored, individual, Medicare and Dual Special Needs plans. For more information, visit www.uhccommunityplan.com/nc.
