Everest Group PEAK Matrix Report Recognizes Optum as a Leader in Health Care Payer Information Technology Services

November 30, 2016
  • Optum positioned as a Leader among more than 20 competitors
  • Company’s health care domain expertise cited as “distinct edge” in serving public and private health plans

Optum, a global health services and innovation company, has been named to the Leader category in Everest Group’s 2016 “Healthcare Payer IT Services — Service Provider Landscape with PEAK Matrix™ Assessment.”

Everest Group’s research uses a comprehensive evaluation framework that examined 22 service providers in the global health care Information Technology (IT) services market and identified them as either Leaders, Major Contenders or Aspirants. Among these 20-plus competitors, Optum was recognized as a Leader, a designation of the highest levels of delivery capability and market success, and the only health services company to achieve this distinction.

According to OptumInsight CEO Bill Miller, today’s health care payer business imperatives call for operational excellence with the aim of optimizing core operations, enabling integrated value-based care and delivering differentiated customer value.  As payer organizations look to modernize and transform their business and IT, they can quickly become overwhelmed.

“Unlike many IT service vendors, Optum has been purpose-built solely to serve the health care market,” said Miller. “To stay ahead of client needs, Optum invests nearly $3 billion annually in technology and innovation. We are honored that our investments and commitment to the market have been recognized by Everest Group.”

Optum has brought together its capabilities to provide end-to-end solutions in the payer market by virtue of its health care-grounded approach that encompasses its health care experience, business operations scale, commitment to innovation, established cross-system collaboration and transformative partnerships.

John Reynolds, executive vice president, Optum Business Process and IT Services, said: “Optum provides integrated technology capabilities and services on a single end-to-end technology platform, enabling payers to drive down expense and more quickly move toward success in a value-based and outcomes-focused market.”

“Payers are increasingly looking at partnering with service providers who offer deep industry pedigree and expertise,” said Abhishek Singh, practice director and leader of healthcare and life sciences research, Everest Group. “Optum has emerged as a partner of choice in an environment where clients are looking for key capabilities at scale – including platforms and solutions, domain expertise, innovation and execution excellence. Optum has leveraged its legacy and displayed broad-based strengths across lines of business to build use cases of its partnership with industry’s key players.”
