MINNEAPOLIS (Oct. 01, 2007) —

UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) today launched a wide array of new and improved Medicare plans for 2008 ahead of open enrollment which begins on November 15, 2007. For the first time these include the only Medicare Advantage plans carrying the AARP name, and new Part D drug plans with zero dollar copays for generic drugs through preferred mail.

“One out of five seniors have already chosen a UnitedHealth Medicare product, and 2008 now brings them even more choices, health benefits and savings with our enhanced and innovative Medicare Advantage plans,” said Simon Stevens, chief executive officer of Ovations, the UnitedHealth Group Company dedicated to serving the health and well-being of people age 50 and older. “Our new Part D drug plans with zero copay for generic medicines through preferred mail are also an important advance in promoting high quality and affordable care for seniors.” Stevens said.

Medicare Advantage Plans

AARP® MedicareComplete® provided through SecureHorizons®

For the first time, in 2008 Medicare beneficiaries will be able to choose AARP® MedicareComplete® provided through SecureHorizons®. These offerings are Medicare HMO and PPO plans providing broad health care coverage that includes benefits not available through Original Medicare - from the only Medicare Advantage plan that carries the AARP name.

In April 2007, UnitedHealth Group announced it had extended and broadened its exclusive Medicare relationship through 2014 with AARP, the nation’s leading membership organization for Americans age 50 and older. Both organizations renewed their commitment to work toward improving society through better health outcomes, with a focus on innovation through new and expanded health care offerings.

SecureHorizons is the largest Medicare plan in the nation, offering many zero premium Medicare Advantage plans. Members will find that AARP® MedicareComplete® provided through SecureHorizons® offers the high-quality benefits and services they have come to expect through their current SecureHorizons MedicareComplete® plans, along with several important enhancements for 2008, including more coverage for preventive and wellness care, such as Silver Sneakers and Advance to Wellness in selected markets, and 24 hour Nurseline support and the Health Allies discount program in all markets. Plans also include lower costs for many services, and in many cases plans that enable members to see a specialist without referral from a primary care physician.

Evercare Special Needs Plans

For 2008, Evercare is expanding the availability of its Special Needs Plans for people with chronic health conditions from seven to 34 states, as well as introducing the first-ever Evercare Health Plan for People with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia in Maricopa County, AZ.

Special Needs Plans are a special type of Medicare Advantage plan designed to ensure that the people who need the most care – those with complex health care needs and chronic conditions – receive it in a personalized, coordinated way. Evercare today serves more than 150,000 people nationwide through Medicare, Medicaid and private-pay health plans, programs and services – from health plans for people in community and skilled nursing settings, to caregiver support and hospice care.

SecureHorizons Private Fee for Service Plans

Private Fee for Service Plans offered by SecureHorizons will be offered in over 1600 counties across the United States, with competitive benefits and new programs including access to 24 hour Nurseline services as well as the Health Allies discount program in all markets.

Part D Prescription Drug Plans

AARP® MedicareRx and UnitedHealth Group Part D Prescription Drug Plans

Beginning in 2008, beneficiaries enrolled in UnitedHealth Group prescription drug plans who use mail order services will be able to get most of their generic drugs with a $0 copayment. In addition, UnitedHealth Group will offer a prescription drug plan that provides coverage for certain drugs in the coverage gap.

UnitedHealth Group is the country’s largest provider of Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage and will again offer AARP MedicareRx Plans in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories. AARP MedicareRx Plans provide Medicare beneficiaries with protection against the rising cost of drugs, as well as features that make it simpler and more convenient access to the drugs they need.

In 2008, Medicare beneficiaries can choose one of three AARP MedicareRx Plans through UnitedHealth:

  • AARP MedicareRx Preferred. Includes 100 percent of the drugs covered by Medicare Part D and has no annual deductible, so savings can begin when the first prescription is filled.

  • AARP MedicareRx Enhanced. This option provides the same coverage as AARPMedicareRx Preferred, plus coverage for Tier 1 drugs while in the coverage gap, and a Bonus Drug List that includes several drugs not otherwise covered by Medicare Part D.

  • AARP MedicareRx Saver. This option comes with our lowest copays and premiums and a drug list that includes more than 4,000 drugs including 100% of the generic drugs covered by Medicare Part D.

In addition, UnitedHealth Group will continue to provide the UnitedHealth Rx Part D Plans.

All AARP MedicareRx Plans and UnitedHealth Group plans offer:

  • More than 60,000 network pharmacies nationwide.

  • Predictable and stable formulary. Drugs will not be removed from the covered list during the year unless CMS requires removal, or a drug is withdrawn from the market.

  • Flexible payment options. Premiums can be deducted from a Social Security check, checking account or savings account, or members can receive a coupon book and pay by check each month.

  • Preferred Mail Service option. Members can enjoy extra savings, including a $0 copay for a 90-day supply of Tier 1 medications, and the added convenience of home delivery, at no cost, to any address in the United States.

Medicare beneficiaries currently enrolled in SecureHorizons MedicareComplete Plans or Medicare Prescription drug plans offered through UnitedHealthcare, including the AARP®MedicareRx plans, should expect to receive information about the plans’ offerings for 2008 shortly.
